JGSA COVID-19 Update

JGSA Families and Friends:

There is no higher priority to us than the safety and health of our JGSA and Dragon Select athletes, families, and friends. We are actively and closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus, and we are working hard to stay on top of this evolving situation.

We have communicated out that starting March 16, 2020, JGSA has suspended all team practices at our facilities- Lew Clarkson and the JGSA Indoor Facility. In being mindful of social distancing, individual use of Lew Clarkson and the Indoor Facility for our JGSA Select players is still an option at this time (hand sanitizer is located near the entrance of the facility and we ask that you please use upon entering). At the time of this information, the softball fields are still open for individual use according to the city. However, any individuals using the softball fields (the Quad fields, Merical, Wellmark, or Signarama) or the Indoor Facility need to be mindful of the number of people on the fields or indoor softball facility, and social distancing.

Per Governor Reynold’s announcement today on April 17, 2020, that schools will not reopen this school year- the JGSA Board of Directors will continue to evaluate options available for Little League Recreational Softball and communicate these out as we determine what is best for our families, their athletes, and the community.  Options being considered are a season that starts the middle/end of May 2020 and runs through July 2020 or a season that starts in August 2020 and runs through the end of September 2020.

The JGSA Board of Directors has its regularly scheduled board meeting on Sunday, April 19, 2020, and as options are considered and decided upon, more information will be communicated out to our families and the community, just as we have been doing since March 16, 2020.  We will continue to consider and be mindful of the recommendations provided by many levels of government, following the direction of the Johnston Community School District and the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union- IGHSAU.

At Lew Clarkson, there will not be any bathroom units located at the Quads for the foreseeable future.  The city has deemed shelters and other community areas that people may locate at parks closed until further notice and the gates to the facility may be closed as more information becomes available.

As we continue to work out the schedule for all age groups, we will communicate out start dates for practices and games as soon as we determine. If you have any questions related to Little League Rec Softball please reach out to:

Abby Hawes – 6U Rec Director – [email protected]

Brian Hemesath – 8U Rec Director – [email protected]

Eric Clark – 10U Rec Director – [email protected]

Tom Cope – 12U Rec Director – [email protected]

Jarod Haxton – JGSA President – [email protected]

Over the weeks and months ahead, we will do our utmost to keep everyone informed while mitigating the impact on our activities.
